One Direction are a British-Irish boy band formed in London in 2010, consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. In 2010 five of them auditioned for The X Factor season-7 as a soloist in the "Boys", but they all failed. After receiving advice from guest judge at the time, Nicole Scherzinger, the five of them together and form a boy band. Boy band then managed to get away for the category "Groups". Boyband newly formed given five weeks to practice at the same time get to know each other before the competition begins. Furthermore, five of them agreed to do an exercise in a villa owned by Harry's stepfather in Manchester. Harry was the one who had the idea to name their group One Direction. According to him, it sounded great as host of The X Factor, Peter Dickson mention their names during a live broadcast on television. Then, in the qualifying round as well as their first appearance in the group judging, they sang the song "Torn" acoustically. During the competition, One Direction bring the songs of some world-famous musicians, including Pink, Coldplay, The Beatles, Elton John, Kelly Clarkson, Snow Patrol, Kim Wilde, Rihanna, and so on. After the other participants (FYD, Diva Fever and Belle Amie) consecutive eliminated, One Direction being the only participant Simon Cowellyang option left. This group is quickly gaining popularity in the UK. At the end of the competition, One Direction finished in third place, behind Rebecca Ferguson (second winner) and Matt Cardle (first winner). However, after the final completion, a song called "Forever Young" which will be sung by One Direction if they become champions of the world apparently leaked. In January 2011, One Direction signed a recording contract with a record label owned by Simon Cowel, Syco Records. Then, in November 2011, One Direction also signed a recording contract with Columbia Records in North America
